Veregy’s James Meadows presented at the 2010, Metering Billing/CRM America Conference in San Diego, California. The theme was “Where Technology Meets the Customer”, and it addressed the need to embrace customers while implementing metering and smart grid projects. The conference featured talks, workshops, and exhibits conducted by the Utility industry’s leading Smart Grid professionals.

As the Director of Pacific Gas &Electric’s SmartMeter™ program, James has gathered many valuable insights on the importance of incorporating customer perspectives when making critical business decisions. Metering America describes PG&E as a “maverick” utility wisely pursuing an investment in smart grid implementation despite the challenging economic environment.

SmartMeter™ is the largest AMI program in the United States and serves as an excellent case study for successful execution of a smart grid initiative. At the conference James discussed the challenges of deploying a smart meter every 2 seconds.

utilityplanningnetwork.gifThe Utility Planning Network’s Metering Awards Program has honored Pacific Gas & Electric’s SmartMeter™ program as the 2009 AMI Initiative of the Year by a North American investor-owned utility.  Each year UPN’s panel of utility peers recognizes exceptional metering and smart grid initiatives from around the world.

Veregy provides overall program management for SmartMeter™, including business case and CPUC support, IT systems implementation, Program Management Office quality assurance, and vendor management.

SmartMeter™ was also the recipient of the 2008 AMI Initiative of the Year award.  This continued recognition highlights PG&E’s industry leadership in AMI implementation.


James Meadows presented at the 2009 Metering, Billing/CRM Europe Conference in Barcelona

Metering Europe 2009Veregy’s James Meadows, Director of Pacific Gas & Electric’s SmartMeter™ program, presented at the 11th annual Metering, Billing/CRM Europe 2009 conference and exhibition in Barcelona, Spain.  James has been involved with the SmartMeter™ initiative since its beginning in 2006.  He shared his insights and provided an update on the program, which is the largest AMI initiative in the United States.  Over 4.6 million SmartMeter™ electric and gas meters have been installed, and by the end of 2011, PG&E will have deployed 10 million meters to all of its California customers.
                                                                                                                                                
The conference featured talks and exhibits from the metering industry’s most innovative thought leaders around the world.  James discussed technology evaluation and adoption, key regulatory drivers, cost benefits realization, overall lessons learned, and next steps to achieve full smart meter population.
